Rand is the Chair of Make a Difference GM, a charity driving bold, creative change for vulnerable women, girls, and families across Greater Manchester. With deep roots in grassroots activism and strategic leadership, Rand steers the organisation with vision, courage, and an unwavering commitment to equity.

She champions culturally responsive programming and systemic collaboration, ensuring every initiative, from early years development to bilingual advocacy – she amplifies the voices too often left unheard. Under her leadership, Make a Difference GM continues to break barriers through projects like Roots Kitchen and the Tiny Tots Group, blending creativity with empowerment.

Rand believes in the power of radical imagination and community wisdom. As she says: “We’re not here to tick boxes, we’re here to rewrite the narrative, build power, and make change impossible to ignore.”
Maida Saeed
Trustee & Community Champion
Maida is a devoted mum of three, a passionate volunteer, and a trustee of Make a Difference GM. Her ability to balance family life with tireless community service is truly inspiring. Whether supporting women at Heaton Norris Community Centre or helping shape inclusive initiatives across Stockport, Maida leads with warmth, empathy, and quiet strength.

She’s known for her deep cultural awareness, grassroots wisdom, and unwavering commitment to empowering others, especially those who feel unheard. Her work bridges generations and communities, creating safe and welcoming spaces where women and families thrive.

In 2023, Maida was honoured with the 'Volunteer of the Year Award' at the Make a Difference Community Awards for International Women’s Day, celebrating her outstanding contributions to grassroots work. She embodies the spirit of Make a Difference GM: compassionate, collaborative, and deeply rooted in service. Maida reminds us that true leadership begins at home and grows through love, action, and community.

Sadia Akbar
Trustee, Educator, Examiner, and Youth Mentor
Sadia is a seasoned educator with a dynamic international teaching background, having held roles in China and Kenya before establishing herself in the UK as an A-Level Sociology teacher. Her global perspective enriches her classroom practice, allowing her to connect with students in meaningful ways and bring sociological concepts to life through diverse cultural lenses.

In addition to her teaching role, Sadia serves as an examiner for both AQA and Eduqas, contributing to the integrity and consistency of national assessments. Her meticulous approach ensures that students are evaluated fairly and to the highest standards.
​
Outside the classroom, Sadia is deeply committed to supporting young people in their personal and academic development. She offers tailored tutoring to help students reach their academic potential and leads a youth group for young women, fostering confidence, creativity, teamwork, and resilience. Through this initiative, she empowers participants to cultivate essential life skills and a strong sense of self.

Driven by a belief in the transformative power of education, Sadia’s work reflects her dedication to nurturing well-rounded, empowered individuals who are equipped to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

Tracy Ryan
Trustee
Tracy brings a wealth of experience in inclusive education, advocacy, and community engagement to her role as Trustee at Make A Difference GM. Passionate about empowering families and amplifying underrepresented voices, Tracy plays a key role in shaping the charity’s strategic direction and ensuring its work remains rooted in compassion, equity, and lived experience.
Alongside her trusteeship, Tracy serves as a SENDIASS Practitioner, providing vital support to parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Her deep understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable communities informs her commitment to systemic change and accessible services.

Tracy also supports youth development as a Scout Leader in Stockport, helping coordinate inclusive activities that build confidence, leadership, skills for life and connection among young people.
